Sands, Hunter & Co LTD Gandolfi 10x12 Tailboard Plate Camera w/ Dallmeyer 33cm f6 Lens & 10x12 Holder

Exceptionally well made Sands, Hunter 10x12" Camera, marked Gandolfi, London, who made cameras for both Sands, Hunter & the Watson Brothers before they went out on there own and produced cameras solely under the Gandolfi name. 

Made from thick brass fittings and well seasoned wood, the camera, for its age (the fact its Co LTD' dates it to around 1915 possibly), is in very good condition, noteable things to mention are one of the brackets that holds the back has been replaced with a bent, thin, metal rod instead of the original pin, on the side of the front standard, one of the brass fittings has a crack running through and the tailboard and where the fittings for the tripod mounts are have a split running through both. 

Other than that, an appropriate restoration should see this camera well for another 100 years. 

Front standard movements work, bellows are in good condition for age but have some small holes in the corners and would need replacing for true light tightness, ground glass is original and in good condition with pencil grid marked on the inside. 

Lens is an aperture'd 33cm, or 13" f6 Dallmeyer No' 7 Series II lens, the front block can be removed so you have a 48cm f19 or remove the rear block for a 86cm f34.

Glass is very good for its age, no fungus, no scratches and no cleaning marks which is unheard of on these since they were uncoated, you'll find the middle elements have some very minor marks, but don't we all after 100 years! the elements on these were soft and prone to scratching/ marking. Apertures work correctly, but due to the sheer number of them, at around f32/f45 they become a little un-uniformed.

Rear glass measures 10"x12", folded the camera h395mm x w360mm x d145mm, flange circumference is approx' 68/70mm. 

Camera comes with lens flange and 10x12 holder which has been adapted to take 10x8 film by the previous owner (successfully so since we have a test negative here from it) because of this the film holder is sold *AS IS*.

We have a metal flight case that the camera can be transported in.
